As part of its ongoing promotion of all things Bastianich, Coast at Santa Monica’s Shutters will welcome Mario Batali, the incredibly famous ginger we constantly hear about, but whose orange crocs we seldom see on our shores. On Saturday, January 28th, Batali will cook for two mid-day seatings at Coast, where he plans to prepare a three-course menu with ricotta ravioli with rabe and potato, braised chicken with sweet onions and parmigiano with spaghetti squash, and an orange-scented cannoli, all paired with selections from Bastianich Winery and his own La Mozza label.

Will he deliver his eats directly to your mouth like a Mamma bird? Um, no, don’t be crazy. Guests will, however, have the option of sitting at an open bar table where they can watch Batali cook for only ten dollars more than the standard $65 fee. Seatings are scheduled for both 11:30 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. and reservations will probably go very quickly at 310-587-1707 or on OpenTable. Meanwhile, we’ll be stalking him to see how that West Coast Eataly is coming along.
