Fallout from the four-bell bombshell that Inky critic dropped over the weekend continues sending shockwaves through the local gastrosphere today. To reiterate, LaBan is going to announce next Sunday that he’s awarding a fifth restaurant his coveted and seldom seen four bells. And as if that’s not enough to keep you wondering all week, in addition to a fifth four-dinger, evidence suggests that there could very well be a shakeup for the current four restaurants that have achieved his highest possible rating. Those restaurants, of course, are Fountain, Lacroix, Le Bec-Fin, and Vetri. One or more could have lost a bell, as another — or more likely, several others — rise to the four-bell realm.
More than a dozen restaurants are said to be in the running. Morimoto, Amada, and Zahav all seem like they could be likely candidates for the ringy-dingy upgrade. But every restaurant from Bibou and Farm & Fisherman to Osteria and Blackfish are worthy contenders. As is contemplating which restaurant gets bumped up a bell weren’t enough, there’s also the part about which one could get dinged for a bell. Let us know with a comment who you think will gain a bell, and who you suspect of will lose one.
