Facebook, Cake, and Crowdsourcing Dessert Choices

Okay, we don’t normally run items about parties you can’t really go to, but this is an interesting so-2012-you-could-plotz story. The Hungry Monkey Baking Company is a bakery founded by a former CTA executive, Cindy Kienzle, who was let go while she was 7 months pregnant and decided to follow her dream making baked treats to sell at the farmer’s markets. Recently she developed four new cake flavors— chocolate cake with chocolate covered cherries, sweet cherries and chocolate ganache glaze; chocolate cake with candied orange and orange zest and chocolate ganache glaze; mint chocolate cake with candied orange and orange zest and chocolate ganache glaze; and chocolate cake with raspberry ribbon and chocolate ganache glaze. But how to choose without glazing over at the glazes? Well, she invited customers who follow her on Facebook to RSVP for a party tomorrow evening at Prairie Grass Cafe in Northbrook, where about 100 of them will taste and vote. (And you said there was nothing worthwhile on Facebook. There’s cake, dammit, what more do you want?) If you miss out on the tasting, at least you can find the winner soon at local chains including Sunset Foods, Potash Bros. and Mariano’s Fresh Markets.
