Last month we heard that Tony Gemignani, of Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, was expanding to the former Pulcinella spot at 641 Vallejo Street with a new project called Capo’s. At the time, Tony hinted that the place would feature “several menu items that North Beach hasn’t ever had,” and today we get a rumor via a North Beach blog that the big secret here is that the place will feature Chicago-style deep-dish pizza.

This makes some sense given that Chicago-style is about the only style that isn’t covered by Tony’s current, comprehensive pizza menu, which includes New York coal-fired, Sicilian, St. Louis-style, California-style, and Detroit-style pies in addition to his classic Neapolitan pies.

Blogger Gianni Mola of Gianni’s North Beach sends us the news, insisting he has “reliable sources,” and adding that Gemignani will be moving his pizza school to the Vallejo Street location as well. The opening date is still TBA.
