“Admittedly, La Estrellita is a fairly interesting place to hold a gay comedy night,” writes East Bay Express scribe Rachel Swan. “A small, family-owned Mexican restaurant on East 12th Street [in Oakland], it sits in an area that’s largely untapped for gay infrastructure.” She goes on to explain how the place considers itself not only gay-friendly, welcoming in the new customers at comedian Charlie Ballard’s monthly LGBT comedy showcase The Hella Comedy Show, but also spoken-word-night friendly too. Apparently, Ballard pays the performers in tacos, and not all comedians have been happy with that. Also, we should note that at the next show, on Friday, there will be a gay magician. [EBX]
