Complete with their trademark old-timey facial hair, bow ties and sleeve garters, brothers Eric and Ryan Berley are ready to reopen Shane Confectionery, the 148-year-old candy shop at Front and Market that they acquired last year. Meal Ticket reports that opening ceremonies today were to include a visit from Mayor Michael Nutter. Following thorough restoration efforts on its floors, walls, iconic curved glass windows and all its original candy-making equipment, brothers Berley, who’ve been rocking it retro at the nearby Franklin Fountain for a number of years, have returned Shane to all her 1863 glory. Going forward plans include to fire up the shop’s candy stoves and produce confections in the same time-honored tradition as the Shane family did before them. [Meal Ticket]
