In jaw dropping sideshow news, chef Gabriel Viti of Highwood restaurant Miramar Bistro has been moonlighting as a superhuman mountain climber and is now the 335th person in the world to successfully climb the Seven Summits (the highest mountain peaks of the seven major continents). Viti climbed his seventh mountain on November 26—Antarctica’s Mountain Vinson Massif—a year and a half after completing his first climb: the monstrous 29,035-foot Mount Everest in May 2010. That’s seven mountains in 18 months, people! But he’s not stopping there.
Aside from cooking at a suburban French bistro, Viti has a long list of adventures he’s planning, including: swimming the English Channel in August 2012, studying martial arts in Asia, sailing around the world, and getting his pilot’s license. Viti has a history of competing in insane physical endurance competitions, including the Ironman Brazil Triathlon in 2007 and a marathon on the Great Wall of China in 2008. On top of all of this, he managed to raise $200,000 for special needs organization, Keshet. A body of steel and a heart of gold? Apparently these people still exist.
Frankly, we’re shocked he has time to own and operate a restaurant, but Miramar Bistro is still going strong after 8 years. If you suddenly have feelings of laziness/inadequacy, join the club.
