We’ve asked the question here plenty of times, as recently as last week: Is Anthony’s ever going to pack it in? Well, we finally have the answer. Pier 4 (where most of your dining peers are 94, ha ha!) is officially going to be turned into a retail-and-condo complex, reports the Boston Business Journal. The multi-million dollar project was approved last night.
Mayor Menino hopes that the area will turn into a “24-hour neighborhood,” as opposed to the kind of neighborhood where people dine before bingo at 4 p.m.
When will the debt-addled restaurant serve its last popover? We’re not sure yet, but we’ll let you know. And, as much as we love to poke fun at the place, we’re also a little bit nostalgic. Just one more Boston institution that’s going the way of the Oak Room.
