East Village: Polonia, a mainstay Polish diner on First Avenue, has closed after over twenty years in business. One rumor attributes the restaurant’s demise to rent increases. The owners have also announced their next project: NYC Pierogi Factory. [EV Grieve]
Gramercy: A comedy club–restaurant combo will fill the spot left behind by Truffle at 239 Third Avenue sometime in March, heralded by a window sign that says, “The future home of something funny!” Seth Levine of Wine & Roses and Sons of Essex will be the executive chef at the street-level comfort-food restaurant. Greenwich Village: Mexican food lovers, take note! Two new Mexican restaurants are set to open early next year just around the corner from each other.
