Nathan and Loeb, at it again

The duo behind one of the area’s best bakeries, artisanal ice cream shops and best burgers have officially, and very quietly, debuted their new bakery and (soon) pizzeria, Milo and Olive. According to their newsletter, only the bakery portion opened today, and will operate 7 to 11 a.m. daily. How does it differ from Huckleberry and Rustic Canyon less than two miles away?

Nathan and Loeb, at it again

For starters, it only has two communal tables and a counter, and won’t be taking reservations. There are only a few cafe-style breakfasts on the menu, such as fritttas and homemade bagels, plus an expanded variety of Nathan’s delectable pastries and breads. Once the lunch and dinner hours begin, on Dec. 1, chef Evan Funke’s team will turn out wood-fired pizzas, seasonal salads, and dishes like fried local squid with crispy lemons and Calabrian chiles, and roasted McGrath Family farm pumpkin with brown butter. We consider Nathan the Nancy Silverton of her generation–and we all know what she’s done for pizza. Let’s hope Milo and Olive will be the Mozza of her generation, as well.
