SC Asian Opens Friday in Macy’s Basement

We broke the news last month that a new fast-casual restaurant called SC Asian was taking the former Wolfgang Puck Express space downstairs at Macy’s Union Square, and lickety split the place is already swinging open this week, on Friday, November 18, just in time for the holiday shopping rush. The restaurant marks a new and slightly revised concept for the company that owns 36 other locations of its Stir Crazy and Flat-Top Stir Fry Grill restaurants in the Midwest and elsewhere in the country, and the beginning of its west-coast expansion. The new Macy’s spot will include a full bar, and 160 seats (!), and the chain’s CEO Frederic Mayerson says they created the new format to appeal to this “this highly-trafficked and discriminating dining area.”

You can check out the whole menu here, which includes open-faced steamed bao, Asian flatbreads (which we’re sure would make Wolfgang proud), Thai BBQ tacos, noodle dishes, and banh mi sandwiches in four varieties: BBQ pulled pork, BBQ pulled chicken, tempura shrimp, and spicy seared tuna. Also, for those trying eat lighter before Thanksgiving, there are salads too.

And this will be an order-at-the-counter situation, but your food will be delivered to you at your table.

We’ll report back as soon as we’ve seen and tasted more.

SC Asian - 170 O’Farrell Street, Macy’s Marketplace, basement level - Opening Friday, November 18. Open daily 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., though hours may change for sale days and holidays.
