Prizefighter, a New Cocktail Bar, Swings Open Wednesday in Emeryville

That is clearly a boxer.
That is clearly a boxer.

We were led to believe that Prizefighter, the new bar in the former Kitty’s space (6702 Hollis Street) in Emeryville, was not going to be at all boxing-themed, however we can clearly see via this teaser shot from SFoodie that there is a big picture of a boxer next to the bar. Anyway, the place opens tomorrow, Wednesday, with a crew of experienced bartenders at the helm. Co-owners Jon Santer (Bourbon & Branch, Beretta, Range), Dylan O’Brien (Bloodhound, Churchill), and Polly Hancock are joined by Carlos Yturria (Absinthe, Range), Patrick Brennan (Prospect, Range), and Lucia Gonzales (Flora, Luka’s Taproom) behind the bar, which will feature a menu of pitcher drinks, cocktails, and low-alcohol “patio” cocktails like spritzes and Bloody Marys.

That is clearly a boxer.

Also, there is shuffleboard, and they’re apparently employing a dude who’s done 150 jumps as a California Smokejumper — a guy who skydives into a forest fire to try to extinguish it — as a bouncer to keep a brawl like this one from happening again.

And in keeping with the Eels song the owners claim as their inspiration for the name, the menu features the lyric, “I’m a don’t-do-it-wrong do-it-righter.”

Prizefighter - 6702 Hollis (at 67th), Emeryville - Opening November 23, 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily.
