Rumors of Kite & Key’s owners reviving the shuttered South Philly bar 1601, which the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board shut down back in March for operating with an expired liquor license, have been churning in the mill for months. Yesterday, that subject was briefly batted around on the message board Philadelphia Speaks. And today, the rumor surfaced again on Naked Philly. Last week, Grub caught up Kite & Key owner Jim Kirk and asked if there was any truth to the scuttlebutt, and he flat our denied it. “I looked at it a while ago as a favor to a friend,” Kirk told Grub Street. “But it’s just not in the cards for us.”
