We haven’t been that impressed by the ubiquitous doughnuts served by hipster restaurants on their brunch menus, so we were skeptical about the whole stand-in-line-for-a-half-hour-$3-yuppie-doughnut thing. At least until we tried such places in New York and here; now we’re firmly committed to the idea that there’s plenty of headroom for better doughnuts, and $3 is a small price to pay for a truly exquisite one. So let us join in the general excitement that more are on the way. Scott Harris, who pretty much opens every idea that pops into his head, is apparently on the way to opening Glazed and Infused somewhere in the Fulton Market area. Penny Pollack tweets that he plans to open in January with counter, couches, wi-fi (no surprises there) and “still ‘secret’ coffee,” whatever that means. Considering that that’s right in the heart of Intelligentsia, La Colombe, etc. territory, the doughnuts are more likely to be the secret weapon separating this spot from the others.
