The Hidden Vine Reopens Downtown, Complete With Bocce Court
The new and improved Hidden Vine.

Swapping a tucked-away Tenderloin alley for a tucked-away Financial District alley, wine bar The Hidden Vine reopens tonight in new digs at 408 Merchant Street (near Washington and Battery), in the shadow of the Transamerica Pyramid. They may not have the exact same underground feel as their former Cosmo Place location (across from Le Colonial, now home to Barrel Room), but now they have the addition of an outdoor bocce court! Because nothing goes better with wine than a little tossing of balls. Also, as Vinologue reports, there’s a fireplace from a 19th century home in the Mission, a bottle wall, antique tapestries, and an emphasis on the cozy.

The menu now boasts 40+ wines by the glass, and 120 by the bottle, and they’ll be starting to do regional-focused mini-lists in November.

The new bocce court is in a little mini-alley adjacent to the space; it’s what would have been the smoking patio if that were still allowed.
