The results of a privatization study conducted by consultants hired by Governor Tom Corbett’s administration were made public this afternoon, and based on its recommendations, it’s looking more and more like the LCB will soon be a thing of the past. The report affirms what privatization hawks have been saying all along, that a private booze sale system is what’s best for Pennsylvania, its finances and residents, according to Harrisburg’s WHTM. Though the book is all but closed for the state’s 600-plus Wine & Spirits Shops, Corbett and company are now tasked with devising and implementing a plan to cut them loose. The report puts forth two possible scenarios. One is similar to the plan put forth by House Majority Leader Mike Turzai in July, which calls for auctioning off liquor licenses to the highest bidders. The other would make licenses available to any qualified applicant with enough money to buy a one. [WHTM]
