The revamped space at 579 Hayes.

They’ve had two nights of soft openings with free food, and now Two Sisters Bar & Books is ready for its close-up. The narrow café/wine bar/cocktail bar is charming and cozy and every bit as European-by-way-of-Brooklyn as the owners, sisters Mikha Diaz and Mary Elliott, promised. Their full liquor license has not yet come through (they’re crossing their fingers that it will get approved any day), so for now the short but tasty cocktail list is all vermouth-, wine-, and beer-based. And contrary to our earlier report, the book component here is not actually retail sales — it’s a book exchange, with a bookshelf near the front door from which lone guests can pick up something to amuse themselves while eating and drinking.

They’ll be open in the evening only, starting at 4 p.m. on weekdays, and Mikha tells us they have plans to launch their weekend brunch in three weeks. See the menu of small plates and drinks, and our slideshow, below. And we can say already those chicken meatballs are the bomb. For tonight’s opening, Tablehopper says there’ll be a happy hour all night long.
