Shark Fin Ban Signed Into Law; But Shark Fin Soup Will Be Around for Two Years At Least

Governor Jerry Brown signed the somewhat controversial shark-fin ban into law on Saturday, making the import, sale, and distribution of shark fins illegal in California as of January 1. Don’t expect menus to change immediately, though; shark fins already in the state, like the stores of them that will likely end up in Chinatowns between now and January, can be sold and made into shark fin soup until July, 2013.
