Nervous Starbucks Should Talk to Coffee-Hero Hugh Jackman

The Guardian says that Starbucks “is warning of a threat to world coffee supply because of climate change.” This would explain their meandering into the juice world. Jim Hanna, the company’s sustainability director, says that coffee farmers are already struggling with climate changes, severe hurricanes, and bug problems, and the issues are only escalating. Hopefully this won’t soon affect Hugh Jackman, who is making one Ethiopian coffee grower’s dreams come true — a struggling farmer named Dukale, whom Jackman met in 2009 and promised to take care of. This week, Laughing Man Coffee & Tea opens, with coffee beans purchased directly from Dukale, and the entire café devoted to the prosperity of his farm and others. [Guardian UK, Related]
