Gingerfruit Shutters About as Quickly as Pudong Before It

Four months after trying to reinvent itself as Gingerfruit, the restaurant formerly known as Pudong (and, long ago, Mecca, at 2029 Market Street), is dark once more. Gingerfruit stayed afloat a month longer than its predecessor concept, which shuttered within three months of its winter opening. Eater catches the sign on the door announcing that they’re “closed until further notice,” and the website’s gone dark too. So yeah, looks like the team has given up the ghost for good this time. The biggest problem may be the interior, which feels sad and sterile and is mostly untouched since the Mecca era. But somebody ought to take this spot and do it up big. [Eater]
