OMG, didn’t you hear? Peruvian food is like totally “hot,” you guys! The Wall Street Journal said so just the other day and of course, you’ve probably heard about that Zarate fellow or caught the kids crowing about killer lamb belly and inferior chicha morada at Chimu, the pricey aji amarillo tiradito at Oscar’s, and the causita sampler at Osaka. SO, it’s like seriously all the rage, you guys. But while Sam Nazarian is yet to ring the sweat and Kardashian-licensed body spray out of one of his clubs to turn it into a cevicheria called “Inka,” Richard Sandoval’s Zengo is jumping on the bandwagon, offering a “Taste of Lima-Tokyo” menu through October. Wanna see?
Here you’ll find yuzu leche del tigre with ceviche, mariscos with purple potatoes (Raphael Lunetta better keep eyes on his supply), and lomo saltado with wok fried vegetables on a menu of eight small plates priced between $13 and $16. They even have a boozy chicha morada to go with it. It may not be a Zarate production, but one thing’s pretty certain: There won’t be a wait.
