Whilst some parts of the world experience widespread food shortages and rapidly rising food costs, we here in America continue to flaunt our comfortable excesses. Tomato Battle, an event modeled after a festival in Bunol, Spain, is a concert-cum-food fight in which attendees pay a premium to hurl many thousands of pounds of tomatoes at each other. Organizers of Tomato Battle have already staged one in Colorado, and they’re planning to bring the event to the Bay Area, to the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, on October 1.
