Grub Street hears that Drink bartender extraordinaire Misty Kalkofen will bring “Speed Rack” to Boston in a couple of weeks. The speed drink-mixing competition raises money for breast cancer research. Kalkofen just needs a few good lady bartenders to compete.

The speedy sip-off originated in New York City, founded by the very esteemed group Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails (LUPEC). It’s a cutthroat contest: Sixteen competitors vie for eight slots. The top eight go on to compete at the judged event (we’d be delighted to offer up our services!), with the fastest ‘tenders advancing to future rounds. Ultimately, one lucky winner is crowned Miss Speed Rack and goes on to compete at Tales of the Cocktail. The grand prize? A trip to France to visit Cointreau. Plus, of course, the chance to whip up drinks for the thirsty masses, all for a good cause.

Sounds fun, right? Learn more (and watch a video of the NYC launch competition) right here. The Boston event happens on October 10 at the Jorge Hernandez Cultural Center. Mark your calendar. And next time you’re at your favorite watering hole, tip off your favorite bartender!
