Grub Street learns that Samuel Adams will host its first public OctoberFest stein-hoisting battle this week at the Park Plaza Castle. Until now, steins were hoisted within the confines of the brewery … where, according to founder Jim Koch, “die-hard fans even came dressed up in lederhosen and dirndls.”
Before you’re tempted to play fast and loose in your lederhosen, remember that the rules are strict: steins must be held with one arm only, parallel to the floor; contestants are eliminated if they drop or bend an arm; and steins must be held aloft for as long as possible.
The winner receives a trip for two to Oktoberfest in Munich. Pretty awesome, right?
The festivities and OctoberFest keg-tapping begin this Friday night, beginning at 5 p.m., at 130 Columbus Ave. Get your tix right here.
