Mozza Mulls Expansion to Downtown San Diego

According to Sign on San Diego, Pizzeria Mozza is looking to continue its southward expansion, considering space within Downtown San Diego’s Police Headquarters Building, a grand colonial structure that has sought revitalization in the last two decades, but has lacked a sufficient project. The COO of Batali-Bastianich Hospitality Group confirms that Mozza currently has a tentative deal worked out to bring a two-story, 4,200 square-foot location of the chic Italian into the building.

Over on Squid Ink, Nancy Silverton hints at the deal, which would follow Mozza’s expansion into Singapore and a very recent opening in Newport Beach. Yes, we are a little jealous that our favorite Italian is suddenly on the move more than the star of La Strada, but we’ll have to get used to it as a worldwide expansion is apparently in the works for the Silverton, Batali, and Bastianich collaboration. Besides, there are absolutely days when we’d drive three hours for that ricotta and egg raviolo.

Will historic police building finally get its makeover? [Sign on San Diego]
