Following a recent spate of shootings in the Mission that left three men dead in the space of a week, Mission Local decided to interview a few restaurant-goers — in particular a couple of ladies from the Marina dining at popular vegan Mexican place Gracias Madre on Mission and 18th — to see how they felt about the uptick in violence. And guess what! The two 28-year-olds are blithely nonchalant about it all, because they come from a different land entirely. “It’s kind of scary, but kind of fun,” says one. “It has some cachet,” says the other. “[Like,] ‘Oh we are in the Mission, we are so cool.’” Thank you, ladies. Excellent job keeping that cultural divide between the Marina and the Mission alive and well. Please don’t let the family of slain cook Gaspar Puch-tzek read this.
