Lapham’s Quarterly’s food-nerd issue, to be replaced by their future-nerd issue this week, is boiling over with great foodisms. Not the least of which is the George W. Bush quote, “I’m not leaving, and by the way I’m hungry,” said on September 13, 2001, after he was warned about a serious threat to the White House. (He then ordered a cheeseburger.) Another classic: “I am the emperor, and I want dumplings,” said Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria. Elvis and chicken livers, Hemingway and pigeons, and more delicious factoids ensue. [Lapham’s Quarterly]
