Food Trucks Keep On Truckin’

There’s been some exciting developments in the food truck sphere in recent weeks. Claudette Campbell and Iman Marcano-Sowell, the brains behind Calypso, the Trinidadian restaurant at the Chestnut Hill Farmer’s Market, have gotten in on the mobile munch scene with Mini Trini, which serves assorted veggie, shrimp and chicken roti, saltfish, fried codfish cakes and sweet potato fritters. The truck makes its rounds at Love Park evey Monday through Thursday. Also new to the four-wheeled scene is Chewy’s, which wrapped its first week on Market Street near 34th and 35th streets, serving “modern American cuisine,” like its Diablo burger, avocado and chipotle sauce, and Buffalo Tots. Oh, but that’s not all that’s new.

Foobooz reports that newcomer Foo Truck has been serving up Asian-inspired wraps from Garden Variety at 2nd and Poplar streets, and will hold down the corner near Kung Fu Necktie to serve hungry, late night diners. Pure Fare expects to roll out a truck next week to serve healthy lunch options near 40th and Locust streets, Meal Ticket reports.

Meanwhile Saturday’s Love Park Festival will mark the debut of Pitruco Pizza and its mobile wood-fired pizzas, and Sunday’s farmers market at Headhouse Square will serve as a coming out party for Renaissance Sausage’s new sausage cart.
