It could be this year’s imposition of an entry fee or simply pure intimidation after seeing last year’s contestants, but Evan Kleiman is still searching for a roster of professional and amateur bakers to duke it out at KCRW’s 3rd Annual Pie Contest, going down at LACMA on September 18th from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. What can the baking-impaired expect at this pie-eyed party?
The good news is whether the pie entries flood in or not, admission (which includes a little pie-tasting) is free to the general public to attend and watch contestants battle it out for five prizes, awarded to the best home-bakers, professional pastry chefs, amateur bakers, first-time entrants, and recognized pie experts.
All eyes are on a special category this year that ties into LACMA’s huge Tim Burton exhibit, with pies inspired by the filmmaker’s work being sought for a category of competition all its own. In addition, visitors can expect an apron fashion show, a tour through the museum that looks at various depictions of sweet servings in artwork, and pie-themed art workshops for families and kids. To attend, simply show up. To join the fray, register online.
