It’s not just Michelle Obama tackling “food deserts” these days: The CA state legislature recently approved a bill, which is just waiting for Governor Brown’s signature, that would provide funding to grocery stores, farm stands, and other fresh food vendors looking to open in under-served communities around the state. As one food advocate in Oakland puts it, “There is [now] a bill that states healthy food is a human right. That is deep.” [Oakland North]
