The somewhat surprising news broke last week that Starbucks will open 800 new stores worldwide within the next fiscal year, and we think we know how they’ll get it done: The chain is saving on electricity by covering up the electrical outlets at its New York City stores. Blogger Starbucks Gossip posts a note from someone at the chain’s regional management who confirms the move is being made to deter those who set up makeshift offices in the coffee shop for hours at a time and use the outlets to power their laptops. As long as they don’t start cracking down on walk-ins using the bathroom. [Starbucks Gossip via Gothamist]
