Sadnesses: John Walker & Co. Is Closed for Real

By all accounts, 78-year-old fine booze purveyor John Walker & Co. (175 Sutter) seemed to just be going through a brief battle with the ABC over an underage-carding sting, and would likely reopen. But now it looks the place has decided to close for good. Tablehopper reports, via the store’s website, that they’ve called the time of death. “1933-2011. We are grateful to all of our customers, employees, vendors and friends who have supported us over the years.” To the city’s artisanal cocktail community: We are very sorry for your loss.
