Have you wondered what all the hullabaloo is going on in that forever vacant lot across from Pat’s Steaks at Passyunk and Wharton? Work crews there have been busy for the past ten or so days painting murals, tearing up the blacktop and hauling in what looks like a ton of soil. Turns out it’s all for Rachael Ray! The perky TV host is coming to Philly next week to shoot a Philly-focused episode that will air sometime in late September. According to a source working closely with the production team that Rach dispatched to Philly, and who asked to remain anonymous, the lot in question is where much of the episode’s magic will happen. There’s no word yet if this will be the location of the show’s Great Philly Grill-Off. Currently volunteers from the community are helping to transform the lot into a green urban oasis, with garden beds, plants, flowers and shrubs. After the show wraps, the garden plots will reportedly be up for grabs to anyone who helped plant them. All the more reason to volunteer, if you ask us.
