Did a Dorchester Pub Ban Minorities?

That’s what the attorney general says. Per the Globe, Martha Coakley’s office charges that African-American, Hispanic, and Cape Verdean patrons were banned from neighborhood hangout Peggy O’Neil’s Pub and Grille back in December. Owner Caron O’Neil allegedly told the group that “we don’t want any trouble tonight. I don’t know you guys, and you should try to find another place to go.” Meanwhile, Caucasian customers (some of whom were drunk, apparently) were allowed inside. O’Neil made similar statements to a group of minorities in April, according to the suit, stating that “we don’t like people of your kind here.” The Globe quotes O’Neil (who denies the charges) as saying she’s sure things will “all clear up.” How … optimistic.
