Moo & Oink May Have Danced Last Dance

So, here’s a strange coincidence: on the same day that Crain’s writes about Chicago’s shrinking food deserts, one of the few grocery stores known to service the fresh food-deprived neighborhoods announced that it will probably have to close. According to Austin Weekly News, Moo & Oink will be sold or liquidated very soon after losing millions of dollars over the past two years. The economy was blamed, as was recent competition from Safeway and Walmart. It’s a sad end to a brand that started about 150 years ago (!). Even if you’ve never stepped foot into one, you’ve probably experienced the glory that is a Moo & Oink commercial. The YouTube video below is one of the greatest things we’ve ever watched. We’d like to remember them like this.
