Michael Cardenas’ The Fat Spoon Takes Over East Restaurant, This Monday

Normally, we’d be a little bummed to find out Downtown’s East restaurant is closed, as we like eating there while laughing at the Daikokuya line (we also like flying across the 101 and shooting the bird at the other side when its stuck in traffic, basically the same shade of schadenfreude). But Eater’s news that Michael Cardenas is taking over the space this Monday is welcome, considering the regard given his recent passion projects, Lazy Ox Canteen and Aburiya Toranoko. Cardenas is springing The Fat Spoon on Downtown next week, a shop built for creative Japanese curries (using ingredients like Jidori and Kurobuta) and Italian pasta in small plates (including a domestic Kobe bolognese), along with comfort sides, Japanese beer, sake, and sochu.

The Fat Spoon, 329 E 1st St. Downtown.
