Make Westing, a New Bar With Bocce Courts, Opens In Oakland Next Week

First there was Bar Bocce in Sausalito, and now a bar with two indoor bocce ball courts is on its way near the Fox Theater in Oakland. It’s called Make Westing (1741 Telegraph Avenue), and as Urban Daddy reports, it’s a pretty cavernous space with a bare-bones feel, but they will be doing semi-fancy cocktails. The name comes from a Jack London story about sailing around Cape Horn to get from New York to California, in the pre-Panama Canal days. The space used to be a jewelry store, and there’s a huge safe in the back that the new owners haven’t been able to open, so that’s sort of intriguing. Look for it to open next week, if all goes well.
