White Dog Cafe founder Judy Wicks, who sold her University City restaurant to Moshulu owner Marty Grims back in 2009, was arrested last week in front of the White House. The entrepreneurial activist was participating in a sit-in to protest the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, a transcontinental tube designed to bring sandy crude oil deposits from Canada to oil refineries in Texas. Environmentalists and activists contend that extraction oil from these deposits endangers the Canadian wilderness and puts areas near the pipeline’s path at risk from potential spills. Wicks was on of dozens rounded up in the protest, which has been ongoing since August 20 and runs through September 3.
