It’s kind of obvious, actually.

First off, in case you didn’t already know, yesterday Tony Mantuano revealed on Twitter that the name of his highly anticipated new Italian wine bar would be Bar Toma. As he’s mentioned before, it will feature a mozzarella bar, pizza, and “much, much more.” Exciting news, no? But where did he get that name? It sounds vaguely Italian, but is there any significance behind it? Determined to find out, we reached out to the restaurant.
The answer is kind of totally obvious, but nonetheless, here it is: Toma comes from the first two letters of Chef Mantuano’s name (TOny MAntuano). Also, the name happens to be a variety of Italian cheese. There you go.
