Yesterday we reported on the expansion of the Thieves bar empire which is coming to the El Rincon space at 2700 16th Street (at Harrison). Well, thanks to a tip, we now have more details today via a Facebook teaser page: The place is going to be called Dear Mom, and it’s the pet project of two Thieves Tavern bartenders, Oliver Piazza and Jay Beaman, in partnership with Thieves owner Paul Bavaro. Come fall, they hope to be open and serving a limited, French-inspired, gastropub menu with nightly specials, courtesy of chef Laurent Katgely of Chez Spencer/Spencer on the Go (see a draft menu below).

Says the team, “We’re really into the neighborhood and having a warm neighborhoody place to eat and drink with reasonable prices and tasty bits. For everyone. Low key. Mellow. No live music. But you’ll still be able to get a little too drunk and make out with a stranger late in the night.”

Hear hear!

No word on when, exactly, El Rincon will shutter. Below is the draft menu they’ve posted from Katgely, featuring some delicious sounding bits like baked farfalle and cheese, and a most un-bar-like bouillabaisse special on Fridays.
