Elizabeth Falkner is switching things up at Citizen Cake once more. The patisserie-restaurant, which relocated up to Pacific Heights after being in limbo most of last year, is set to become more “fun” as Falkner tells the Scoop, and will change its official name to Elizabeth Falkner’s Citizen Cake, Ice Cream Parlor & Eats. The place has seen a couple of chefs de cuisine move through the kitchen this year — both Amy Glaze and Shaun McGrath have departed — and Falkner says she felt like the savory side of the place had veered off into something “too serious.” She’s now hired Ragazza vet Allison Harvey, and as of August 15 the menu’s going to get a revamp with simpler, comfort food items like Fatted Calf hot dogs, meatballs, burgers, and roast chicken.
On the sweet side, Falkner says she’s been wanting to make the place more “ice cream parlor-like,” mentioning Farrell’s as inspiration, but that when the place reopened late last year she didn’t have the time or resources to make it happen. Now she’s ready to roll out a liquid-nitrogen ice cream program, and a menu of more than 20 “insane” sundaes, including one involving sourdough ice cream.
