The Strand House, Manhattan Beach’s forthcoming sand-side restaurant that boasts consultation from Neal Fraser and Gjelina vet Travis Lorton, is grand-opening in mid-August, a press release informs us. The restaurant will be four-levels, with the first two dedicated to dining inside or on patios, but both with sea-views among the roughly 250 seats. Top floors will be for private events. Top Chef: Just Desserts castaway Seth Caro will be on pastry duty, banging out desserts like a cube-shaped butterscotch donut with powdered bacon and burnt peach jelly that we’re just about ready to kill a man for after writing that sentence. Now, how about the cuisine coming from this Lorton/Fraser partnership?
Obviously, since you have Lorton in the house and Fraser on top, the food here will be seasonal and farmers market-directed, as will be the cocktails, while a 24-bottle vino dispenser will take care of winos. The menu here will change every week, with a steady supply of wood-fired pizzas, house-made breads and pasta, and slow-roasted meats prepared on a spit.
Cocktails will similarly strive for an artisan touch, using fresh berries and additions like salted caramel froth. Already giving us horrible memories of Beaches, the first floor of The Strand House will turn into Strandbar for dancing, DJs, drinking, and probably some puking, if we know the population around here like we think we do. Still, if you’ve got the space and the demand (which they will), why not max out all profit potential?
The first chance to see the place looks to be coming up on August 9th, when The Strand House holds its house-warming party. It will cost you $100 to welcome in these new neighbors, and no, a simple offering of a freshly baked pie will not get you in the door.
