Last night Captain Solo (aka Michael Solomonov) charted a course for adventure on the SS Zahav (aka Zahav) for his second annual “Down the Shore” party, which actually had little to do with the Jersey coast at all but was all about celebrating the ‘70s TV show Love Boat. With his staff decked in nautical garb, guests in cruise wear and perhaps the worst-sounding lounge act ever, the James Beard award-winning chef — in wig and sunglasses — presented a midnight buffet (actually at 8 p.m.) — with Korean fried chicken, mini lobster rolls and Top Chef contender Jennifer Carroll’s ceviche (that’s pronounced sa-veech) — that far exceeded the all-you-can-eat affair served aboard the Pacific Princess. At 9:20 p.m., Zahav staffers cleared the makeshift dance floor and proceeded to perform a stellar floor show. Later participating chefs like, Bistrot La Minette’s Peter Woolsey and Bibou’s Pierre Calmels, rocked karaoke tunes with friends and admirers. One of the highlights was Carroll and company’s rendition of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.”
