File under Way-Far-Off-Restaurant-Real-Estate News: A proposed condo development at 8 Washington Street — on Port property, facing the Embarcadero, adjacent to the Golden Gate Tennis & Swim Club — would include a large restaurant at one corner, facing the waterfront, of about 10,000 square feet with a large, covered outdoor patio. Also, at the northern end of the site at Pacific Avenue, there would be a second, 4,000-square-foot restaurant bordering a small public park.

The project is in the Draft Environmental Impact Report stage, and goes before the Planning Commission this Thursday for initial review. The Guardian recently penned a knee-jerk editorial panning the project and its LEED certification promises, mostly because it’s a market-rate condo project.

The long and the short of this is that the Embarcadero might get a couple of new restaurants in the next couple of years, if the Port has their way, and the developer will likely be on the hunt for established restaurant operators.
