Kitschy, shabby-chic Palace Family Steak House (3047 Mission), on the border of La Lengua in the Mission, is getting ready to reopen under the same name after closing in 2009. Bernalwood reports the news, showing pictures of a polished up interior that nonetheless retains some mid-century diner charm, and given all the expensive steakhouses that have popped up around town since it closed, like Alexander’s and Bourbon Steak, a downscale option like the Palace might just have an audience. They already had a lot of hipster fans, and a group of them even named a band after the place, and wrote an ironic rock jingle for the restaurant that contains the lyric “John Lennon said it, and girl you know it’s true/ all you need is love, or a little au jus.” Listen below.
