News broke last week about the concept for Charles Phan’s upcoming return to the Mission, in the very same space at 584 Valencia where he first opened Slanted Door over a decade ago. Now, the Chron gets a few more salient details. As we guessed earlier, Michelle Mah will indeed be the chef, and the menu’s going to be focused around southern China-inspired street food — congee, noodles, rice plates, dumplings and “lots of bar food.” Says Phan, “We’re finally getting jook in the Mission.”

There will be a big cocktail program, and Phan is placing special emphasis on non-alcoholic drinks, too.

Also of note, architect Olle Lundberg, who also designed Slanted Door, Heaven’s Dog, and most recently, Bluestem Brasserie, is doing the design and will be incorporating recycled pieces from former city bus shelters to construct new railings for the upstairs mezzanine. (Lundberg designed the new bus shelters for the city, and got to keep all the scrap from the ones they removed.) For the bar and tabletops he’ll be re-purposing wood from an old bowling alley.

Again, Wo Hing General Store is slated to open in September, if all goes well.
