With food-truck crackdowns in full swing, another mobile eatery has crossed over to the brick-and-mortar realm: Mexicue, which opens its first store today in Chelsea. As you know, the concept combines Southern barbecue with Mexican fare, and the menu at the new place expands slightly on that of the year-old truck, adding a couple of salads (smoky Caesar, spicy potato) to the taco and slider lineup. The simple, order-at-the-counter space has bright-orange walls to match Mexicue’s bright-orange truck, and hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. And this won’t be the last you’ll see of Mexicue in permanent digs: A second branch will open on Forsythe Street on the Lower East Side later this summer.
