It’s the End of an Era in Salem

Several very good restaurants have emerged in Salem in recent years (Cilantro, 62 Restaurant & Wine Bar); sadly, though, one local legend is biting the dust.

The Lyceum, which helped set the standard for fine dining on the North Shore, will close this week after being in business since 1989, per their website and Dishing.

According to their site, owner George Harrington “has worked tirelessly over the years to make everyone feel at home at The Lyceum, and has earned his well-deserved rest.” This is your last week to visit the Lyceum and bid George adieu before he retires. The party officially ends on July 31.

The space will morph into a new restaurant come August, though the Harringtons are mum about what that might be; Boston Restaurant Talk posits that the space will turn into a “fine dining” steak-and-wine bar. Stay tuned.
