Papa’s Tomato Pies in Trenton (established 1912) used to claim that it was the country’s second-oldest pizzeria, with Lombardi’s (1905) on Spring Street commonly considered the oldest. But hold on just one second there: Even Lombardi’s admits it opened its present location ten years after it closed its original location down the street. Thus, technically, the current Lombardi’s is a different pizza place with the same name. Papa’s, on the other hand, has never closed. So! We guess Papa’s really is oldest. But is either one of them the best? [Star-Ledger via Diner’s Journal/NYT]
