Jacob Wirth Owner Seriously Injured in Crash

It’s been a rough few months for Jacob Wirth. Around the holidays, owner Kevin Fitzgerald came under fire for berating underperforming employees in a scathing memo that was leaked to the press. Now, word is that Fitzgerald’s been seriously injured in a car crash.

The South End Patch reports that Fitzgerald was “seriously burned” in Saugus over the weekend, when a tanker truck flipped and caught on fire. The Route 1 blaze killed the tanker’s driver and left others with minor injuries.

The Patch states that Fitzgerald underwent emergency surgery and remains in serious condition at Mass General. No word on who’s presiding over the age-old Theater District beer den in his absence. Regardless of past drama, here’s hoping he makes a speedy recovery.
